On Saturday, I journeyed to San Diego for the highly anticipated wedding of Bradley and Kiersten. Garrett, Ellen, and Ellen's two wonderful visiting (slash wedding crashing) friends, Katie and Adam, joined me on this journey. (Random sidenote about Adam... he looks exactly like Ryan Gosling. As fate would have it, he actually met and took a photo with his dreamy doppelganger at the Getty with Katie and Ellen! You must see for yourself... the resemblance blows my mind...

Crazy, right?? |
So, back to the wedding...a low-point of the weekend was the insane traffic the entire way which more than doubled our trip time, thereby causing us to completely MISS the ceremony. (Blurgh!) I'd like to think we made up for that sad mishap by thoroughly enjoying the reception. This lovely party was held in Balboa Park . This was the first formal occasion/super fun dance party that a good handful of closest friends from LA and I have attended together, which made it exceptionally fun.

If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it. |
In addition to my amazing (slash hilarious) friends, there were a few notable guests in attendance.
Luke from The OC is apparently great friends with the bride! He even played the guitar and sang a lovely rendition of 'At Last' for the bride/groom's first dance. A very random pleasant surprise of the evening. Ha!
Calvin from Greek. Another friend of the bride. I watched a few episodes of the first season ... not sure why I didn't continue after that because it was really funny. Despite my lame following of the show, I saw "Calvin" and "Cappie" at The Troubadour when I was interning in 2007 and took the below photo. (Don't worry... I didn't take a photo with him at the wedding).

My hair is so short...yowza. |
Buster from Arrested Development. I haven't seen enough episodes of this show to recognize him at all (a tragedy, I know. I'll try to get on that asap). Garrett did, however, and said one of his (many) hilarious quotes of the day upon meeting him: "So, how long after meeting you do I have to wait to talk about Arrested Development?" hahah. He said 5 minutes. He then complimented Garr's glasses. Overall, AMAZING wedding (er... reception). Definitely in my top 5 favorite weddings. Next up on the list of amazing things that happened last weekend: dinner at Terroni (which was wonderful minus the waitress accidentally spilling several large glasses of ice water directly in my lap) and the "Shitty Jobs" show at UCB which most notably includes the always-hilarious Donald Glover and Ben Schwartz. (Not as wonderful as my beloved "Facebook" show, but nothing really is. I still give it 2 thumbs up.) |
I was afraid it would be horrendously crowded due to the holiday, but it really wasn't! It definitely helped that Matt and Ellen are straight up Disney pros (they have a season pass and go every 2-3 weeks. Literally). They had the perfect itinerary for us and had Matt running all around to get fast passes (which essentially allow you to cut in front of all the foolish people in line who don't have fast passes). We got there the moment the park opened at 8 am and stayed until after 10 pm. That is 14+ hours of intense Disney fun. YOWZA. Needless to say, we were absolutely exhausted. We all simultaneously hit a low point around 4 pm on the Finding Nemo Submarine Adventure ride, candidly captured by Adam.
Our tour with Tommy Magic was very magical indeed. Matt put it perfectly when he said, "I feel like he should have said 'goodbye,' and snapped his fingers and disappeared in a cloud of smoke."
(Sidenote: Matt and Adam are now friends with him on facebook. hahaha. Perhaps this will lead to more behind-the-scenes Disneyland attraction tours in our future). ;-)
Please forgive the overly long post.... Memorial Day weekend was just full of many gems this year.
Currently listening to: Best Coast
Why: I've previously declared her album "Crazy For You" (which sounds like it was recorded in her parent's garage... kind of like The Stroke's first album) my official summer album. And what a perfect summer album it is. Additionally, I just found out that Mary and I are going to Outside Lands in San Francisco for my birthday and Best Coast will be there! Happy birthday to me, fo'real.
Luckily a very fun(ny) ride on the Matterhorn (awkward wink) and a viewing of the spectacular World of Color show revived us. I don't think words (or the below photo) can really do this show justice, but let me just say WOW. It was amazing. Go see it, if at all possible.
The grand finale of our Disney day came in form of Tommy Magic, a "cast member" as they call them at D-land who works at The Tower of Terror (the best ride ever). (He claims that is his birth given name). Upon exiting the ride, Adam told him he was funny. He then asked us if we wanted to skip all the lines and take a personal tour of the "Hollywood Hotel" (the setting of the ride). Um, okay! It was so cool... he told us creepy things about the building and showed us a lot of decorations and props that are actually from the old Twilight Zone tv show. Dear Tommy then rode the ride with us (as we clearly point out in the below photo).
